Hyderabad: CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy on Friday demanded that the State government implement Rs 4,000 per acre subsidy for the purchase of fertilisers from the farmers this Kharif season. CPI asked the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to bear the interest of farmers in the fourth phase.

CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy in a letter to the Chief Minister said that the announcement of giving Rs 4,000 subsidy on fertilisers per acre was good, but it was not good on the part of the State government for not implementing the scheme from this Kharif season. The farmers are facing a lot of troubles since ages, he said.

There was a need to conduct a comprehensive study for the reasons as to why farmers were facing such problems. The announcement of subsidies will not solve the problems of the people and it will be a temporary relief to the problems, he said. Reddy said it would be better for the farmers if the government implemented the scheme immediately.

He also asked the State government to bear the interest of the loan as it was waiving off the farmers’ loan on a phased manner. He said interest of Rs 29,500 in co-operative banks and Rs 35,000 in commercial banks would burden the farmers in case the government failed to bear the interest. He demanded that the State government waive off the loan along with
interest.
