Four of a family killed, two hurt in road mishap
Four members of a family, including three children, were killed while two other were grievously injured in a road accident when the two-wheeler they were travelling on was hit by a GHMC tipper.
Hyderabad: Four members of a family, including three children, were killed while two other were grievously injured in a road accident when the two-wheeler they were travelling on was hit by a GHMC tipper.
The ghastly road accident occurred near RTA office in Trimulgherry late on Thursday evening. The deceased were identified as Shaik Azhar (37), his children – Shaik Aman (9), Ashfiya Sultana (7) and Haleema (3).
Azhar’s wife Imrana Begum (28) and another daughter Atiya (6) who suffered grievous injuries were shifted to a hospital.
Police said the victims left their home in Abrar Nagar in Hashmathpet on their moped around 10.15 pm to attend a wedding at Modern Function Hall in Trimulgherry.
Azhar took a right turn near Bhogal Cycles shop and stopped the vehicle briefly to find out the location of function hall when the tipper heading towards Jubilee Bus Station from Trimulgherry hit the moped at a high speed around 11 pm leaving four dead and two injured.
Karkhana police arrested the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as K Advaiah. The tipper belonged to GHMC garbage transportation wing. It was later found that the driver was in an inebriated state when the accident occurred.
Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao, who was returning from Armoor, stopped his convoy at the accident spot and helped in shifting the injured persons to hospital.
It is said there was a delay in shifting the victims to the hospital allegedly because the Trimulgherry and Karkhana police tried to pass the buck on each other on the point of jurisdiction.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, B Sumathi, refuted the allegation and said police reached the spot in less than 10 minutes of receiving the information.
