Warns polluting units of stringent action; exhorts officials to monitor industrial activities

​Hyderabad: Following complaints from citizens about the pollution around industrial areas in the city, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao conducted surprise inspections in the Industrial area of Jeedimetla in the early hours on Saturday.

During his inspection, the Minister visited industrial units and inspected wastewater treatment plants. He also ordered the officials to take strong action against the Industries which are dumping wastage illegally.

Rama Rao asked the officials to set up CCTV camera network connected to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Pollution Control Board (PCB) and the police headquarters to keep a check on illegal dumping into open nalas.

Minister also visited open nalas where dumping wastage were illegally carried out. The Minister also instructed GHMC and PCB officials to work together and conduct raids on such industries who were not adhering to the norms.

The Minister also visited Pragatinagar Lake and enquired about local issues with the residents. He also instructed the PCB and GHMC officials to conduct a special drive for controlling pollution and come out with an action plan for the development of the lake surroundings.

A meeting would be conducted with industrialists who have units at Jeedimetla, Balanagar and Bollaram. Officials from the GHMC, District Collectors and other officials will take part in the meeting with an agenda of curbing pollution. This meeting will take place on April 18.

The Minister also met local residents and enquired about the grievances they were having in the area and assured the residents that highly pollutant industries would be relocated outside the Outer Ring Road in the coming days.

Later addressing the media, the Minister said, “We recognise and respect that these industries are providing employment, but we will not compromise on pollution hazards. We are asking the PCB to take special drive to check the problem.”
