New Delhi: The BJP would never allow "100 per cent" reservations to Muslims under any pretext in Telangana and it was not just the party's policy but also that of the government as it is the Constitutional position too.

Referring to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's proposed tour to New Delhi on May 23 to seek Prime Minister's intervention in favour of 12 per cent reservations to Muslim minorities in State, BJP's national secretary Muralidhar Rao said BJP was for reservations to all weaker and deprived sections, including those from Muslim minorities.

"But, as the TRS government is proposing 100 per cent reservations to Muslims through its Assembly resolution which means 200 per cent of opportunities to its youth, we oppose the same tooth and nail. No government could earmark reservations on the basis of religion," Rao said.

Justifying his contention, he said, "if the government is proposing 12 per cent reservations to a population of a community of not more than 12 per cent of the total population, it amounts to not only 100 per cent reservations but also 200 per cent opportunities to them as the youth that would be availing the same would be half the population of the community. This is an atrocious proposal and illogical argument. No one would agree to the same. No community would allow it."

Secondly, KCR's move would only pit the Muslims against the other communities as he did not sound it like reservations to the backward communities among Muslims but by raising it to 12 per cent, he sounded as if he was providing reservations to them on religion basis, he added. "The discussion generated is not about backward classes, but about a particular community and hence people would not support him," he said.

KCR's move was a disservice to the Muslims as they would be alienated by those enjoying reservations as well seeking reservations now.

"KCR is welcome to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister, but he should - as all others - know that we are opposed to the same as party and have taken to streets against the issue. The arrogance of the TRS leadership is not going to help them.

To claim that BJP does not have a single municipal seat and hence it would be nowhere in future is illogical. The TRS rule is a family rule. Like in any family rule, corruption has become inherent to it. The TRS rule also has become a corrupt rule. We shall continue attacking the government on the reservations and corruption vociferously," he said.
