CPM cautions govt over waste dumping into Hussain Sagar
Communist party of India (Marxist), city unit, on Thursday staged a dharna at Lower Tank Bund demanding that industrial effluents should not be released into Hussain Sagar Lake. CPI (M) party demanded that the State government initiate necessary measures to stop lake water contamination.

Speaking on the issue, CPM city secretary M Srinivas said due to negligence of the government the pharma and other industries have been dumping industrial wastes into the lake and as a result it has been highly contaminated and emanating foul smell especially during nights. Besides this, he said, the ground water levels have also been contaminated and are posing grave threat to residents.
Srinivas demanded that the government repair the pipe line which has been carrying highly contaminated industrial effluents to Amberpet sewerage treatment plant. He also demanded that the government ensure that industrial effluents are not leaked into Hussain Sagar nala in the future.
