Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday slammed the Congress leaders for internal squabbles and coming in the way of development in the State. “The Congress leaders could not digest the welfare schemes and development programmes being implemented by the TRS government,” he said.Participating in some developmental works being executed at Andole and other areas in Sanga Reddy here, Harish Rao promised to distribute water to 50,000 acres to Andhole area from Singur.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had come up with the idea of offering help to the farming community with Rs 8,000 per acre for each for two crop seasons and to offer help to the allied sectors, he said, adding that the Congress leaders, who lost hopes of returning to power ever, were resorting to mudslinging campaign against the government. The Minister also accused the Opposition of lacking commitment on people’s problems.

While the previous governments ignored agriculture, farmers took to the road for seed and fertilizers, the TRS dispensation was able to address the problem by spending more funds for farm sector. “We have taken every step to keep adequate stocks of seed and fertilizers with quality,” he said.“

Though we are giving MSP to all types of farm produce on procurement, chilli farmers are facing problems and we are working out a plan to address their woes as the Centre is to take a final call in this regard,” the Minister said. Harish also expressed hope that this time 40 lakh metric tons of agricultural produce was expected and the government would purchase them. Paddy with 17 per cent of dampness would be purchased at the purchase centres, he added.
