The members of Telangana Urban Areas Development Forum (TUDF) on Saturday organised a cycle rally to celebrate Earth Day. The rally was organised with an aim to sensitise people about their role in conserving environment. The members launched Khammam Cycling Club in a bid to spread awareness on global warming and other environment issues.

While inaugurating the cycle rally, BSNL Khammam general manager Pati Ravinder Reddy emphasised on the need for sensitising people about the man-made environmental disasters.

“There is a need for striking a balance between transportation modes and sustainable environmental requirements,” he said, stressing the need on focusing on pro-environmental behaviour.Stating that urban areas are experiencing more rapid increase in temperature than the rural areas, he said onus is on people to protect the environment cleaner, greener and healthier for the future generations.

Chief Guest Dr C Bharavi said, “The need of the hour is to promote cycling as way of recouping nature and health.” He appealed to the people to use bicycle at least a day per week. Cycling not only saves fuel but also keeps people fit, he added. The other members also emphasised the need for creating awareness on the benefits of cycling.TUDF leaders Tirumalacharyulu, Bandaru Ramesh, Yerra Srikanth, Bandi Narsimha Rao, T Laxmi Narsaiah, G Nagamalleshwar Rao, Basheerudding, Naveen Reddy, JVV leaders Vanjaku Laxminarayana, Ch Vanasri, Bellamkonda Sitaramulu, T Srinivas Rao, Kumar Babu, Harinath Babu, Sriram and Nageswara Rao were among others who participated in the cycle rally.
