Successful pediatric heart transplant in Hyderabad
The first pediatric heart transplant surgery was successfully performed in Hyderabad on Saturday. The surgery was a first in both the Telugu States.
​Hyderabad: The first pediatric heart transplant surgery was successfully performed in Hyderabad on Saturday. The surgery was a first in both the Telugu States.
Talking to media, the team of doctors headed by Dr Gopichand Mannam, who performed the surgery, said the family of an 18-year-old boy from Chityala in Nalgonda district, who was declared brain dead following an accident, decided to donate his heart.
The doctors identified an eight-year-old boy Yashwant from East Godavari as a suitable recipient and took up the complex surgery. The boy recovered fast and had been discharged.
The doctors said the family of the boy, who belongs to a poor family, managed to get financial assistance from Andhra Pradesh government and also from certain philanthropists.
His family expressed gratitude to the donor, philanthropists and the doctors who conducted the rare transplantation.
