Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has entered into an agreement with a French-based company Lumiplan for implementing smart transport system to install GPS tracking and advanced on-board electronic equipment in the RTC buses.

This system will help sending SMS messages to passengers regarding real-time information about buses and also monitor the operations by the corporation.

According to a senior official, the corporation would use the technology to inform the passengers through solar LED display boards, multimodal smartphone app and multimedia screens at the bus stations. The official said the pilot project would be taken up with Rs 20 crore grant by the French government.

Under the pilot project, all necessary infrastructure facilities will be provided at the depots and central locations. It would be responsibility of the French company to maintain it.

During the pilot project, a team of five people from traffic department including a project manager would be provided by the TSRTC along with computers, internet and transport facilities to visit the sites (depots, bus stations etc), minimum facilities (office space, internet connection, access to the depots, vehicles etc) would be provided to the team, added the official.

The official informed that there would be no commitment or any kind of liability from the TSRTC side for further involvement or cost and in case the pilot project is not satisfactory, entire installed infrastructure can be removed by the company.

If the results are satisfactory the equipments would be transferred to RTC at no cost. In case of success, the company would provide experts in order to design the products for full implementation in the corporation, he said.

The official informed that the electronic equipment would be provided in around 40 vehicles. The route 115 (Koti-Uppal), 115BV, 115C, 115ZP, 113K/L and 113 M/W have been selected for the pilot project. The implementation period is nine months under which phase-I, including initialization (four months), technical specification, customization and deployment plan.

Phase 2- development (four months) installation, configuration, demonstration and training. Phase-3 (one month) final reporting and knowledge transfer to TSRTC management.
