In a major development, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has acquired another 104 acres of land in Medchal and Rangareddy districts to take up the double-bedroom project in city limits. The civic body will now construct 16,000 2BHK houses in 14 locations. The corporation officials said they would call for tenders on April 27.

​Hyderabad: In a major development, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has acquired another 104 acres of land in Medchal and Rangareddy districts to take up the double-bedroom project in city limits. The civic body will now construct 16,000 2BHK houses in 14 locations. The corporation officials said they would call for tenders on April 27.

According to a GHMC official, the civic body has accorded administrative sanction of Rs 6,014.78 crore to construct as many as 69,535 double-bedroom houses in the city limits. It has also released a GO 212 in this regard.

Against this background, the corporation has speeded up land identification process and has already acquired 104 acres of land during the current week and will acquire another 100 acres by next week.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the corporation had already finalised tenders for 32,000 2BHK houses at several locations in the city. He said at four locations the work had begun and foundation stone for another 10 locations would be laid by next week.

He said the corporation had already acquired about 400 acres of land as of now and would acquire another 100 acres by next week. He said the corporation would only need another 150 acres to construct one lakh 2 BHK houses.

According to the GO, the cost of each unit will be Rs 5.04 lakh in rural areas, Rs 5.30 lakh in the urban districts and Rs 7 lakh in urban areas. The infrastructure cost in rural areas will be Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 0.75 lakh for nine urban districts and urban areas in GHMC.
