Tandur: Political atmosphere here in the Assembly constituency, represented by Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, has been heated up by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Congress public meetings. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is all set to woo the public, not to be outdone by rival political outfits, and is bracing up to address the people here on April 28.

Irked at Mahender Reddy figuring at the bottom of the TRS progress card with 38 per cent marks, the ruling party held at mammoth Janahita meeting with IT Minister K T Rama Rao addressing the party leaders to strengthen the party in the constituency. The party rank and file and the Minister took it as a challenge and mobilised people for the meeting.

Rama Rao came down heavily on the Congress for obstructing the government programmes like Mission Bhagiradha and Mission Kakatiya through litigation, which he said was not proper.

He vowed to provide water for irrigation to over five lakh acres through the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift-Irrigation Scheme. He called upon the people to give their vote to Mahender Reddy in the 2019 polls also. Following the success of the meeting, the party workers are full of beans.

To rival the Janahita meeting, the Congress held ‘Badugu-Balaheena Vargala Garjana’ in connection with 126th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar. Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, Mallikharjuna Kharge, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) in-charge Digvijay Singh, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, former Ministers, MLAs and MLCs graced the meeting.

The meeting condemned the TRS policies in the State and that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and described them as ‘anti-people’. The Congress assured to implement Rs 2 lakh loan-waiver at one go in 2019 when it felt confident to ride back to power. The Congress leaders assured beneficiaries of Indiramma houses to help them build an additional room.

Uttam Kumar Reddy projected M Ramesh, son of former Minister Manik Reddy, as the Congress nominee from Tandur seat in the 2019 polls. He appealed to the people to send him to the Assembly with an impressive majority. Following the success of the Tandur meeting, the party cadres are in a jubilant mood.

In the name of ‘Praja Poru’, the TDP is planning a huge public meeting here on April 28. All arrangements to make the meeting a grand success are underway. Contrary to the propaganda that Assembly constituency in-charge Raju Goud would be the party nominee from Tandur in the next elections, TDP leader Revanth Reddy contesting from the seat is almost sure, according to party insiders.

The BJP is strong in the constituency, but the party banked on Modi wave for electoral success. According to political analysts, the party will not be able to convert Modi wave into votes.
