Hyderabad: Despite the complaints lodged by Wakf Board officials against a senior IAS official to the Police and Revenue Department, the construction works on a 900 sq yard site at Masjid-e-Alamgir near Hitec City continue at a brisk pace.

The total land adjacent to the said mosque is 1.5 acre, of which the land in question is worth Rs 50 crore at least. Civil society groups raised concern over protection of Wakf properties when senior bureaucrats are directly involved.

After getting the wind of the matter, Mohammed Saleem, Special Secretary, Minorities Welfare Department and M A Mannan Siddiqui, Chairman and CEO, Telangana State Wakf Board, addressed the issue in a letter to the Police and Revenue Department in the first week of April.

But due to no progress on the complaints registered, the construction activity on the land, which is a registered Wakf property, is continuing at brisk pace. According to highly placed sources in the TS Wakf Board, the officials lodged a complaint against Y Sreelakshmi, currently serving as Secretary in Public Enterprises Department.

The letters, written by the Wakf Board officials, were forwarded to the Cyberabad Commissionerate and local Collector. The CEO of Wakf Board has asked the concerned departments to take necessary action.

After the complaints made by the Wakf Board proved futile, the civil society groups have taken up the matter and demanded that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao restore Wakf properties.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, MBT spokesperson Amjedullah Khan pointed out that on one side the State government was taking measures to uplift the Minorities in the State by providing 12 per cent reservation, while on the other side TRS led government agencies including police and revenue departments were turning a blind eye towards Wakf property encroachments and not taking necessary action which would send a wrong signal amongst Muslims.

“Protection of Wakf properties is very important to Muslims. Hence I request the government to take immediate action to protect the Wakf property and take necessary action against the responsible for encroaching into the Wakf property and continuing with the construction works illegally,” he said.
