Hyderabad: Telangana police has decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Commercial Taxes scam in Bodhan. The decision has been taken following the revelation that the investigation officer acted hand in glove with some of the accused in the scam.

It may be recalled that a section of officials in the Commercial Taxes Department in Bodhan had colluded with tax consultants to siphon off more than Rs 60 crore tax paid by dealers by producing fake challans and stamp papers. Taking serious note of the scam, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had ordered a thorough probe into it by the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

However, senior officials discovered that Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vijay Kumar, who is investigating the case, had allegedly accepted bribe from the main accused Sunil. Following the discovery by the senior officials, the DSP has been placed under suspension and an internal inquiry has been ordered into the matter. Consequently, the decision to constitute SIT was taken, a senior police officer told The Hans India.

The officer also said the investigation into the TS EAMCET-II 2016 question paper leak case was coming to a conclusion. The kingpin in the case, Shiv Bahadur Singh, aka Pandit of Uttar Pradesh, who is currently under the CID custody and is being questioned, the police claimed, had confessed to the crime. Another accused Randheer, who allegedly sold the question paper to Singh, is no more.
