Hyderabad: The Livestock Census to link cattle to the holder’s Aadhaar card will begin from July. The enumerators will collect details of Aadhaar from each household.

According to officials, besides Aadhaar number, the details would include the phone number, caste, income, education and also land holding of the livestock holder which will help the officials in generating information at the village level.

According an official from the Animal Husbandry Department, linking cattle to holder’s Aadhaar was not practised during the earlier census. The enumerators are being given special training to ensure they gather precise information with reference to the cattle and holder’s Aadhaar.

The Census is officially scheduled to begin from 16 July and will continue till 15 October. The census will also help in sorting out local and non-local breeds of cattle for which, the process of selection for enumerator and supervisor had been completed.

A total of 3,500 veterinary staff would be engaged in the Livestock census for 3-months. Each enumerator will reach out to 4,500 households at rural level and 6,000 at urban level, while the Veterinary Doctors will be supervising the collection of data.

Online entry through Tabs’ under consideration

Centre is considering handing over Tablets for enumeration so as to save time and reduce the human effort. The manual training of the enumerators has been 90 per cent completed and if the Union government considers the proposal of Tablets, then the enumerators will undergo a separate training for entering data online.

“Earlier it took 6 months for completing the entire process but if the enumerators get Tablets then it would be completed within the provided deadline of 3 months,” the official said. This census would also help in providing unique identity number to the cows as proposed by the centre, added the official.
