Hyderabad: At last the 300-odd buses, including air-conditioned and Vajra ones, will be launched on May 5. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will flag the new buses off at Pragati Bhavan. According to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) officials, the Chief Minister would also launch a mobile application on Friday. The 30 services of AC Vajra buses would be operated first between Hyderabad and Warangal and 18 services between Hyderabad and Nizamabad.
Highlights:
- Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will flag off spick and span of 300 fleet of buses, which include AC and non-AC ones at Pragati Bhavan
- The vehicles remain stationary for seven months waiting for the launch
- The new vehicles will be operated between Hyderabad and Warangal and Hyderabad and Nizamabad
Along with this, the online reservation facility would also be inaugurated for the convenience of passengers and to encourage cashless transactions. Two biodiesel buses, too, would be introduced as part of the TSRTC’s efforts to control emission levels and protect environment. It may be mentioned here that it was about seven months since the buses remained stationary in the Hyderabad-III depot and the TSRTC head office Bus Bhavan.
The TSRTC procured the buses in December 2016 but since the Assembly was in session, the Chief Minister could not give time to flag them off.The TSRTC expressed concern over the delay in launching the new buses and appealed to Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy that it could lead to technical problems and the buses may require repairs even before they would be launched. Following this the Minister took up the issue with the Chief Minister and finally it was decided that the new buses would be launched on Friday.
The Transport Minister told reporters that Rs 350 crore was given to the TSRTC for procuring 1,393 new buses, including 100 AC and 236 non-AC buses. More AC and non-AC services would be introduced on some more routes. The Minister said a total of 93 lakh passengers travel in the RTC buses a day and buses are operated from 95 depots in Telangana. The corporation was incurring a loss of Rs 1 crore every day, he added. The old buses would be replaced with new ones in future, he said.
