Irrigation Minister Harish Rao criticized the Centre over it's delayed response and lack of understanding of the farmers' struggles.

Speaking at a press meet in Hyderabad on Thursday, Harish Rao revealed that the Centre has directed the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to purchase only 33,000 tonnes of best quality Chilli at Rs. 5,000 per quintal.

Observing that this move was to fool the farmers, the Minister said that all the market yards are full of lakhs of tonnes of Chilli and the best quality is being sold at least Rs. 6,000 per quintal.

Questioning about the inferior quality chilli, Harish Rao even said that Centre is not purchasing any and clarified that only the losses will be made up to the state at 25 to 50 percent.
