Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project is being built as a ‘transit’ urban rejuvenation system with last mile connectivity for a seamless travel providing comfort, convenience and safety for women, children, senior citizens and differently-abled people, according to HMRL MD NVS Reddy.

Once complete, the project would transform the city into one of the most preferred global cities, boosting economic growth and attracting investments, jobs and talent, contributing to the vision of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Reddy said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

Multi-modal connectivity by integrating Metro Rail stations with existing rail terminals, MMTS stations, bus depots and ‘merry-go-round’ feeder buses between Metro rail stations and colonies on the same ticket, last mile connectivity using non-motorised transport like bicycles and so on would make the Hyderabad Metro project unique, he said.

Metro Rail stations will be equipped with electric vehicles (EVs) for feeder trips, MRT/carpool and short trips. Adequate network of EV stations will be made available at the Metro rail stations with facilities for charging the vehicles, replacing used batteries with recharged batteries etc. EVs and feeder buses would ply from inner residential areas to Metro stations and would discourage use of personal vehicles for decongestion at road level, he added.
