Visit Koti Maternity Hospital, accuse govt of criminal neglect of State-run hospitals

Hyderabad: Demanding that Health Minister Ch Laxma Reddy immediately resign owning moral responsibility for the deaths of women in government hospitals, four Congress women leaders said the common people were scared of going to government hospitals in the State.

The Congress women leaders D K Aruna, Sabita Indra Reddy, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Nerella Sharada and others visited the Koti Maternity Hospital here on Monday. Speaking to the media later, they said the Chief Minister and the Health Minister should feel ashamed of the pathetic conditions prevailing in the Telangana government hospitals. They charged the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government with criminally neglecting the upkeep of government hospitals for the last
three years.

The State government was distributing pink bed sheets to the government hospitals for publicity sake, they alleged, and demanded that the TRS leaders visit Koti Maternity Hospital to know the ground realities in the hospitals. They also alleged that the hospital superintendent disappeared on knowing about their visit to the hospital. “The doctors were not bothered even as water was coming out from stitches after surgical operations.

Some 350 patients visit the hospital every day, but it has only 150 beds. The hospital staff expressed helplessness over the lack of facilities in the hospital,” they added.Meanwhile, alleging that there was no protection to women under the TRS rule, Telangana State Congress Mahila president Nerella Sharada demanded that the State government immediately order the arrest of MLC Bhoopathi Reddy’s son for committing rape.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Sharada alleged that the law and order situation worsened after Telangana State was carved out and those in power were committing heinous crimes and going scot free. She said Bhoopati Reddy’s son’s rape issue was the best example of lawlessness in the State. She made it clear that the Congress would stand by the hapless girl, who was raped by the MLC’s son.
