Hyderabad: Providing a relief from the scorching heat, Hyderabad and other places in Telangana received showers, accompanied by squall, late last night and early today, but also threw normal life out of gear. Chevella, neighbouring Hyderabad, and Khammam received as much as seven cms of rainfall, followed by six cms rainfall in parts of Hyderabad city, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its daily weather report of Telangana state.

Electricity supply was also affected in several localities in the city as the squall resulted in uprooting of trees and disturbance to power supply network. So far, no loss of life was reported. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) personnel were engaged in clearing the debris. Electricity supply was also being restored, official sources said. However, no major change in maximum temperature was recorded in Telangana in the last 24 hours, the IMD's weather report said.

"The temperature was above normal at one or two places in Telangana. The highest maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded at Ramagundam, Nizamabad and Adilabad," the report said. Light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana, the IMD said in its weather forecast (from 10 am today to 8.30 am tomorrow).
