Mahbubnagar: The district administration in Mahbubnagar has embarked upon an action plan to make the district as open defecation free districts in the country.

As part of this initiative, District Collector Ronald Rose along with Swachh Bharat Chief Executive Officer Posami Basu participated in a one-day awareness programme at Sudarshan Convention hall on Wednesday.

Out of 485 grama panchayats in Mahbubnagar district, members of 84 grama panchayats from across the district were invited to the awareness programme.

While addressing the village representatives and sarpanches of these grama panchayts, the Collector said “We have initially invited most enthusiastic and active village representatives in the district.

As they are all active and ready to work to bring about a change in the society, an action plan was launched to motivate the people to achieve success. Construction of Individual latrines, sink pits would be taken up under Grama Jyothi scheme.

We have asked representatives from panchayats to form village committees and design a comprehensive action plan and set a particular deadline to complete the ILs in their villages. If everything goes as planned, we can achieve the open defecation free district in a span of 3-6 months.”

While talking on the occasion, Posami Basu said that there was no dearth of funds and the government was readily releasing 50 per cent advanced funds to the villages to help them construct ILs and sink pits.
