Veteran sportsmen to get GHMC aid
Following the directions of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to reintroduce monthly financial assistance to veteran Olympians and former sportsmen, basing on the representations received from the yesteryear’s sports personality.
​Hyderabad: Following the directions of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to reintroduce monthly financial assistance to veteran Olympians and former sportsmen, basing on the representations received from the yesteryear’s sports personality.
Keeping in view the importance of ex-sportspersons, MA&UD Minister directed the GHMC to release veteran sportsmen a monthly honorarium of Rs 10,000.
Sports personnel to get the monthly honorarium are Md Zulfakaruddin (Olympian - football), I S H H Hamed (Olympian -football), K Satyanarayana (International - hockey), Bir Bahadur (International-football), Dennis Swamy (Arjuna awardee - boxing), A C Mallesham (National - kabaddi) and G Vasudev Yadav (International - kabaddi). Chandra Prakash Biradar (National - kho-kho) and Sameera Begum (International - tennikoit) will receive a monthly honorarium of Rs 7,500.
The financial assistance scheme for former sportsmen was first introduced in January 2015 and continued till January 2016.
This scheme has been again introduced from the month of April by the GHMC keeping in view the importance of sports and providing assistance for regular involvement of former sportsmen in summer coaching camps and other events.
