​Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to set up 1,500 basthi clinics across the city. The civic body will spend Rs 5 lakh to establish each clinic, a medical lab, pharmacy and others facilities.

Hospital staff will be hired on contract basis and fix doctor fee at Rs 30 per patient. Officials on Saturday said each clinic would provide medical care to 5,000 people.

According to an official, the GHMC has drawn the model of basthi clinics on the area hospitals established by the Delhi government.

Each clinic has a staff of four comprising an MBBS doctor, a nurse, lab technician and a helper. Each clinic will offer 110 essential drugs and 212 diagnostic tests absolutely free.

A senior official told The Hans India that the clinics would be set in community halls initially in all 30 circles. The civic body would spend Rs 5 lakh to set up each clinics and Rs 2 lakh to make partitions in the community halls.

He said the help of the doctors working in all urban and primary health centres would be taken initially and later would hire doctors on contract basis.

The clinics will function from 8 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm on the daily basis. The fee collected from the patients will be given as salaries to hospital staff.

The GHMC would pay Rs 40,000 towards salaries to doctors and Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for lab technicians based on the experience and Rs 10,000 to nurse.
