Bhupalpally: TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has criticised the TRS government for its attitude towards the farmers and its reluctance to ensure remunerative price for chilli.Uttam Kumar Reddy, on Saturday here, offered lemon juice to former chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy to end his three-day hunger strike. He addressed the party cadres. Uttam has questioned the silence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on the issue of handcuffing of the farmers in Khammam.

Stating that not a single people's representative from ruling party ever visited the market yard, Uttam demanded the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to apologise to farmers for his 'no regret' attitude. "KCR should have at least expressed regrets for handcuffing farmers through a media statement. However, it appears that KCR is in no mood to punish the cops who handcuffed the accused farmers," he said.

"Instead of supporting the farmers, the government has been unleashing terror against them," he alleged. He also accused the Minister for Irrigation and Marketing T Harish Rao for launching a tirade against the Opposition leaders who were supporting the cause of farmers. Demanding a support price of Rs 12.500 per quintal for chilli, Uttam advised the government to start purchase of chilli through Markfed.

The TPCC chief announced that the Congress would continue its protest until all the cases registered against farmers are withdrawn. Former ministers Balaram Naik, D Sridhar Babu, Narsampet MLA Donti Madhava Reddy, DCC president N Rajender Reddy, Dr Vijaya Rama Rao, B Sammaiah, J Bharat Chandra Reddy, Namindla Srinivas, Arepalli Mohan, Podem Veeraiah, Kondeti Sridhar, B Arogyam, J Prasad and Aravind Reddy were present.
