Hyderabad: A committee under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has accorded environmental clearance to the proposed 4000 MW power plant to be set by the Telangana Power Generation Corporation in Nalgonda district. According to the minutes of the meeting of Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) the proposal is for establishing 5x800 MW (4000 MW) Super Critical Thermal Power Project (Yadadri Power Project) at Veerlapalem village in Damercherla mandal in Nalgonda district.

The EAC in its earlier meetings observed certain shortcomings in final Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Environmental Environment Management Plan reports prepared by then project consultant. Later the TSGENCO appointed a new consultant and submitted revised reports.

"Committee after a detailed deliberations, recommended for grant of environment clearance subject to the following conditions in addition to the specific conditions pertaining to thermal power projects," the EAC said. The power utility has signed MoUs with Singareni Collieries Company Ltd for supply of 7 million tonnes per annum of domestic coal and another agreement with MSTC Limited for imported coal of 7 MTPA which will be sourced from Indonesia or Australia or South Africa.
