Hyderabad: Alleging that the government tried to influence judiciary which is currently dealing with the case of shifting of ‘Dharna Chowk’, former Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao said that ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) had misused the power by masquerading police as ‘protestors’ on Monday and was now making them scapegoats.

Speaking to media persons in Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, he said that the police force which was meant for maintaining peace had created a violent situation. He described this as a peculiar case where the policemen tried to act as protestors.

He asserted that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who feared anti-incumbency wave, tried to create a scene where the ‘so-called’ residents outnumbered the real protestors on the spot, to influence the judiciary.

Describing this as an opportunity for the Opposition, particularly for leaders of the Congress, Hanumantha Rao felt that this could be a turning point in the politics of Telangana, if someone grabbed the opportunity.

He called upon the party cadre to get charged up as the party had ample issues including farmer’s arrests in Khammam to revive its status in the newly-formed State.

Contending the claims of the government that locals wanted the ‘Dharna Chowk’ to be shifted, he asked if the claims were true, why locals would provide water to those protestors. NTR Stadium remained a major spot for conducting different kinds of programmes, both spiritual and cultural.
