Hyderabad: The Telangana police officers conference, which was touted as an interactive programme between the top brass and lower level officials to know the ground level problems faced by the lower rungs, turned out to be more of a political meeting.

After the political speeches of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and others, the 1,500 strong gathering of police personnel from different parts of the State formed 10 groups to discuss various topics.

However, none of the ten groups had members below the rank of Superintendent of Police. The other officials were left embarrassed and remained uncomfortable till the end of the programme.

The topics discussed by the panels comprising IPS officers and superintendents of police from all the districts include, control of social vices, rowdyism, goondaism, organised and professional crime, PD Act and E-petty cases, women safety, SHE teams, women in police, facilities for women in police stations, use of technology as force multiplier, stabilisation of newly formed commissionerates and districts, naxalism and terrorism, road safety, neighbourhood policing and village police officers, training, refresher courses and updating skills and perspective planning.

After forming the ten panels, they discussed the topics and submitted their suggestions by evening to the Chief Secretary.
