Sircilla: Finally the displaced villagers under the Mid Manair Dam (MMD) will get justice as the State government is expediting the process of clearing the hurdles that had been hampering the progress of the project for about a dozen years.Like any other irrigation project,

the construction of 25.87 TMC ft capacity MMD project mooted to irrigate 2.2 lakh acres of parched land in the region, utilising the surplus waters of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) through Indiramma Flood Flow Canal (FFC), but the project got tangled up since its initiation in 2006. The project which should have been completed by February 2009 as per the original schedule, however, got struck mid way due to various reasons.

One of the major reasons that crippled the progress of the project was delay in payment of compensation and the implementation of R&R package to the displaced. It may be noted here that the government acquired around 20,000 acres, which includes 14,000 acres of private land, for the project spread over 12 villages under Vemulawada, Boinpalli, Sircilla and Ellanthakunta mandals.

Against this backdrop, the 130-metre breach to the dam that occurred due to huge inflows from SRSP on September 5, 2016 had in fact come as a blessing in the disguise for the displaced as it invariably drew the attention of the government.
Since then the government speeded up the project works. Now with the project nearing completion, the administration also expedited the process of clearing compensation and R&R packages to the displaced.

It is learnt that the government is working out a formula on the lines of compensation given to the displaced of Gouravelli reservoir in regard with the compensation to those displaced after completing 18 years of age before January 1, 2015. It is learnt that there are 4,231 oustees under MMD who completed 18 years of age.

On the other hand, the government is likely to give Rs 8 lakh to each family of Manuwada village. This apart, the government had also decided not to vacate the village as it is located downstream of the dam. It may be mentioned here that since the commencement of the project, development activity totally stranded in Manuwada village with a view that it will be vacated.
Talking to The Hans India, Sircilla District Collector Krishna Bhaskar said, "The government is keen to solve the issues faced by the displaced. A process is taking shape to end the impasse in a couple of months."

MMD Executive Engineer G Ashok Kumar said the works of the dam till the level of crest gates will be completed by June end. At this level, the dam will hold at least 10 TMC ft of water. The project is expected to be ready by November. It is learnt that the government has so far spent Rs 1,432 crore for land acquisition and R&R package.
