Hyderabad: “No helmet, no entry into the RTA offices” was a rule exactly a year ago, but it fizzled out. This time around the Transport officials are determined to implement the rule. From Monday onwards, RTA authorities have made it clear that helmet is a must to enter RTO offices across the city.
Joint Transport Commissioner Panduranga Rao Naik said on Saturday that it is an appeal to the public not to enter the RTO office without a helmet. “We need to practise what we preach. while the traffic police take care of the enforcement on the roads, Transport officers will make sure that people follow the rule while entering RTO offices,” he said.
RTA to crack the whip on unfit school buses
With barely a fortnight to go before the schools reopen for a new academic session, the Transport authorities held a meeting with all the stakeholders, including school managements, parents, drivers and officials here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Regional Transport officer K Venkataramana, said, “According to the GO 35, school buses should have radium reflectors, first aid boxes, fire extinguishers and should ensure health check-up of the driver, but in many instances school buses do not adhere to the rules which lead to accidents and mishaps.”
The fitness test for school buses should be completed by June 1. M Dayanand, general secretary, Telangana Auto and Motor Welfare Union, said a refresher course should be conducted for all the drivers at the time of the fitness test every year as it would help them keep abreast of the rules and also act as a reminder.”
Transport authorities said they would keep a watch on buses that fail to maintain a list of the students on board the bus and it should also mention where they alight. The parents committee and the school management are also supposed to maintain a report. K Venkataramana said the age of the driver should not exceed 60 and he should have a minimum of five years experience.
