Hyderabad: Ahead of the visit of BJP national president Amit Shah, BJP leaders seem to have intensified their efforts to lure key leaders from other parties. While some BJP leaders spoke to Sunitha lakshma Reddy of the Congress recently, BJP leader D Purandeshwari called on L B Nagar MLA R Krishnaiah on Sunday apparently in a bid to woo the TDP leader into the Saffron bandwagon.
Though on record Krishnaiah told The Hans India that it was just a courtesy call as she could not attend the marriage of his son, it is learnt that during the nearly one-hour long meeting Purandeshwari had with him, the discussions centred around the political scenario in Telangana and that she invited him to join the BJP.
When asked about it, Krishnaiah said that it is but natural that everyone would look towards BCs as all parties are preparing for elections from now itself. Even TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had got several surveys done before announcing him as the CM candidate if the TDP came to power in 2014.
Similarly, the BJP must also be feeling that if I join them it would help them in strengthening their vote bank. He however said that he was not contemplating to quit the TDP. But the BJP sees Krishnaiah as a strong leader from the Backward Caste community and feels that his presence in the party would help them get the BC votes.
The BJP government at the Centre had recently taken a decision to accord Constitutional status to the BC Commission and this party feels will help in getting the support of the community in the state. It may be mentioned here that Krishnaiah has not been very active in party activities for some time and has also been skipping the TDP and TDLP meetings.
Amit Shah will be in Telangana on a three-day visit from Monday and would dedicate most of his time meeting the rural party workers and the people. BJP state chief K Laxman said that the visit of Amit Shah would be historical one and would turn the fortunes of the BJP. He said that Shah's visit would galvanise the party and will help in emerging as a strong force in the state.
