​Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to file criminal cases against owners who did not demolish dilapidated structure prior to the onset monsoon. The civic body took this decision to minimise the life loss. The corporation will first issue notices to all property owners who have been residing in dilapidated structures.

According to GHMC official, the civic body during June last year has embarked on a survey to identify dilapidated structures across the city. The corporation had identified as many as 2,010 dilapidated structures and demolished 1,089 during previous financial year.

The civic body had also rectified about 93 structures. The civic body had also demolished another 312 structures during the current financial year.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the corporation is yet to demolish 828 dilapidated structures. He said that the corporation will issue notices this week to owners who were residing in dilapidated structures. He said that the GHMC has identified most of the dilapidated structures
in Circle 18 (504) and least in Circle 15.

The official further said that the GHMC commissioner had instructed officials to have special focus on dilapidated and unsafe buildings and take special drive to demolish unsafe structures prior to monsoon to safeguard public life.

GHMC commissioner also cautioned citizens to vacate the dilapidated structures, which have been posing danger and co-operate with corporation for demolition.
