HMWS&SB turns blind eye to contaminated drinking water problem

​Hyderabad: Tap water being supplied by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is changing colours. But the authorities are accused of turning a blind eye to the problem though complaints are pouring in from several areas in the city.

Residents in areas like Rasoolpura, Malakpet and Uppal are facing problem with the supply of contaminated drinking for weeks now. People from Kaladera area near Nalgonda flyover lane at Malakpet have dumbfounded when the drainage water started flowing out of taps. Residents in areas like Bharath Nagar and Indira Nagar near Uppal are also facing the same problem.

Uppal corporator Anala Reddy explained that the problem of contaminated water has been persisting for more than six months now. She stressed the need to take action immediately. "For some areas like Padmawati colony and areas around KKR gardens, repairs were carryout out. But still the problems continue plague people at Bharat Nagar, Indira Nagar, and a few other areas. Complaints have been lodged with the officials" she said.

When approached, the technical officials of the water board, they said every complaint is being taken into consideration. "Once we receive the complaints, they have to be verified by officers before steps are taken to repair the pipelines,” an officer said. People are demanding that steps be taken immediately to ensure that they get clean drinking water.
