Irrigation Minister comes down heavily on BJP leader for trying to stall irrigation projects in Mahbubnagar district
Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy was talking against caste and community based professions like sheep rearing, fisheries and others and also coming in the way of Palamur irrigation projects.

Addressing the media here on Friday, Harish Rao accused Janardhan Reddy of making baseless allegations on irrigation projects and the programmes aimed for the cause of community and caste-based professions like sheep rearing, fisheries, dhobis, barbers and others.

“Nagam seems to be getting nervous about these schemes and coming in the way like Shikhandi. Nagam, who belongs to Palamur, is talking ‘all nonsense’ on the BC welfare schemes and irrigation projects,” he said, adding that Nettempadu, Koil Sagar, Bheema and Kalwakurty projects were not completed by the previous governments. However, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government started works on a war-footing.

Nagam, he said, was indulging in useless talk and did not know in which party he was working now. The Irrigation Minister also predicted that the people of Palamur would chase Nagam Janardhan Reddy for coming in the way of Palamur projects and making useless comments against the government welfare schemes.

“It is no wrong to revive rural economy and empower the caste-based communities by giving adequate financial assistance. Those who migrated from Palamur for livelihood are returning home as the government launched fisheries, sheep-rearing schemes and others,” he said.

The Minister said the TRS government was conducting tenders in a transparent manner by cancelling the previous EPS system. He said they had set a record of sorts by giving waters to 4.5 lakh acres in the backward Mahbubnagar district so far. With the same spirit, the government would bring another 4 lakh acres under irrigation in Palamur district which was known for migration of farmers and labourers.

With the government coming up with various schemes of welfare and caste-based professions giving 75 per cent assistance to Yadavas and 100 per cent to fishermen to empower them, the Opposition parties, including the BJP, the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party were making a hue and cry as they were uncertain about their political future, he alleged.
