Having lost his father and mother at an early age, Laxmaiah faced numerous problems at a tender age of 7 years. With no one to feed him or support his education, the poor child was forced to discontinue his education in 5th class. He joined as a hotel server in Mahbubnagar.

Later on, Laxmaiah shifted to Hyderabad and continued working as a hotel server and as a tea boy at different hotels in the city and eventually grew his interest in the collection of currency of different countries. Besides collecting coins of various countries, he also developed interest to collect books of great singers – Ghantasala and Mohammad Rafi - and history books.

At present Laxmaiah had collected currencies of 180 countries and is still continuing his hobby. Having started as a hotel server with just Rs. 15 a month salary in the year 1968 in Hyderabad, Laxmaih had spent half of his earnings for collection of coins and the remaining half for his family. “I had started the hobby of collecting coins and historic literature since the year 1979 and since then onwards to till date I had spent more than 12 laks in collecting the different currencies of various counties.

I had never deprived my family of their basic needs. I have two sons both of them have studied up to intermediate. All through my life, my wife P Pramila has been supportive and because of her encouragement and support I could achieve what I am today,” adds Laxmaiah.

Not just collecting currency is his hobby; Laxmaiah is also a traveler and visitor of historic place and places of worship.

Retired after 60 years, Laxmaiah is now just surviving on Rs. 1000 a month provided by the State government, wants to continue collecting currencies of all 300 countries in the world. He wants to exhibit them at schools.
