Gough Road to open till substitute road laid
In a major relief to lakhs of commuters and residents in the Secunderabad Cantonment and beyond, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has decided to keep the arterial Gough Road in the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Centre open to the general public till alternate roads are developed.Â
​Hyderabad: In a major relief to lakhs of commuters and residents in the Secunderabad Cantonment and beyond, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has decided to keep the arterial Gough Road in the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Centre open to the general public till alternate roads are developed.
According to reliable sources, the Local Military Authority received a wire from the MoD regarding the issue. The deadline for closure of roads ends on May 31.
Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy who was part of a delegation that met the Defence Minister on road closure said, “Normally, the MoD gives an extension of six months but this time they said that the roads would be open till alternate roads are constructed.”
The Gough Road is used by lakhs of people living in Malkajgiri, Sainikpuri, Alwal and nearby areas. If the roads are closed, people would have to make a roundabout journey which would extent by five to eight kms.
Last year, the GHMC, along with LMA, conducted a survey for alternate roads and the report has been submitted to the Secretariat.
