Hyderabad: After a prolonged heatwave, people can hope for some relief with the Indian Meteorological Dept announcing that the southwest monsoon is likely to hit the city by June 5.

Owing to the hastened movement of the annual monsoon, a lifeline for millions of farmers in the country, the city will experience light rains initially, before it intensifies gradually.

Officials monitoring movement of the monsoon said it has already hit the Kerala coast and most of the northeastern states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. "The monsoon is moving two days ahead of its scheduled arrival.

The presence of cyclone Mora which hit the Bangladesh coast, has aided in the advancement of the monsoon. We expect the monsoon to cover AP and Telangana with increased rainfall from June 3," said IMD director YK Reddy.
