Hyderabad: Communist Party of India (Marxist), city unit opposed the State government's decision to shift Telangana Secretariat and Assembly to Bison Polo and Gymkhana Grounds. The Left party said that it is an irrational decision to shift Secretariat in the name of ‘vaastu’.

In this regard, the CPM party staged a protest at Bison Polo and Gymkhana Grounds. CPM City secretary M Srinivas, on Thursday, said that the present Secretariat which is spread over 23 acres has enough space for various government activities and meetings. "For the sole reason of turning that space into a commercial complex as it is situated near Necklace Road, the State government has initiated this step,” he said.

He said that the present Secretariat is equidistant for both old and new City. If the Secretariat is shifted to Paradise, then it would be away from the old City. He said the Gymkhana Grounds are being used by large number of people for sports and NCC camping regularly. Srinivas says that government has no strong reason to shift the Secretariat. He demanded the government to seek public opinion before shifting Secretariat.

While interacting with the Gymkhana visitors on the issue, Ashok, sports coach said,``The ground was taken under a 50 years lease. It is not correct to use the land for government building before the completion of lease period,” he said. Reacting to the CM’s complaint of ‘vaastu ‘as a reason for this shift, he says, ``Government should not take such important decisions over superstitious beliefs.”
