Godavarikhani: A total of 675 junior lineman (JLM) candidates eligible for job are a worried lot as the new notification for recruitment of junior lineman posts may jeopardise their right to get employment. Adding to their woes, there is no mention of JLM candidates in the latest announcement of regularisation at power plants and Discoms.

Despite favourable orders from the High Court and the Supreme Court, the fate of junior lineman candidates still remains uncertain even after Telangana State became a reality as Discoms totally ignored them either in regularisation or fresh recruitment notifications.

A total of 675 eligible candidates, who are among 7,114 persons successfully completed the selection criterion in 2007 in the united AP, have urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to fulfil their long-pending demand for recruitment in the Discoms.

“Three weeks ago, the Supreme Court’s verdict came in our favour, but Discoms and officials are not even responding to this. We met all Ministers and officials concerned. Everyone assured us justice, but so far nothing has been done.

Moreover, fresh notification and latest announcement of regularisation are creating more panic among us. Out of the 675, over 400 are about to reach their age limit. They can’t apply for any new job. All these years, we have been hoping for the justice and feeding our families by doing odd jobs,” said Azam Khan and M Praveen Kumar, representatives of JLM candidates.

In united AP, Discoms conducted recruitment exam on the basis of ITI for junior lineman posts in 2007. Subsequently, 7,114 candidates were selected and Discoms took up district-wise recruitment. However, 1,800 candidates were not appointed by Discoms in Telangana region.

Subsequently, the candidates in 2009 moved High Court over this injustice. On November 1, 2009, the High Court ordered for completion of recruitment. But, Discoms recruited only 1,125 candidates leaving the remaining 675 in the lurch. They approached the Supreme Court in 2013 and got favourable judgment after four years of legal battle. The Supreme Court on May 8, 2017, gave positive direction on recruitment of junior lineman.

“We have handed over the judgment copies of Supreme Court and High Court to the TS NPDCL, SPDCL, Genco, Ministers and other senior officials. But, so far nothing has been done. New notification on junior linemen is expected to be announced soon. Is there any need for a fresh notification, when there are 675 eligible candidates waiting for recruitment for over a decade,” questioned JLM candidates.
