Sudden rains lash parts of Hyderabad

​Hyderabad: Citizens were caught by surprise with sudden pre-monsoon showers that lashed parts of the city on Thursday. Thunderstorm along with gusty winds followed by rains brought much needed relief to the public from the tormenting heat. The weather in Hyderabad radically changed by evening on Thursday, with the Hyderabad skyline suddenly becoming overcast.

The city traffic came to a crawl as the roads got water logged, as storm water drains did not work. The traveling time of software employees increased by an hour due to the slow movement of the traffic.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department warned that rains will continue for the next three days. The South-West monsoon was likely to hit the State on June 3, but it looks like it arrived three days earlier than expected date of June 7, said IMD officials.

Dark cumulonimbus clouds formed across the south region of Telangana including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam and Badhradri Kothagudem, and Hyderabad. With the result, around 50 per cent of the State received light to moderate rain. Adilabad and Ramagundam which recorded a high of 44 degrees Celsius on Wednesday became cooler on Thursday with mercury dipping to 38 degrees Celsius.

Speaking to The Hans India, Y K Reddy, IMD Hyderabad Director said, “The sudden rains were due to thunderstorm activity. In the summer season, the water vapour forms cumulonimbus clouds and they send sudden downpours,” he said and pointed out that a good spell of rains is expected sooner than later.
