Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) notched-up the highest ever turnover of Rs 17,406 crore for the financial year 2016-17, surpassing the previous year figure of Rs 16,736 crore. HAL\'s PBT (Profit Before Tax) stood at Rs 3,294 crore as against the previous year figure of Rs 3,288 crore.

​Hyderabad: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) notched-up the highest ever turnover of Rs 17,406 crore for the financial year 2016-17, surpassing the previous year figure of Rs 16,736 crore. HAL's PBT (Profit Before Tax) stood at Rs 3,294 crore as against the previous year figure of Rs 3,288 crore.

According to officials, HAL’s thrust on R&D, co-development and co-production of aircraft, engines and equipment with leading global aerospace companies; it will be entering into the global market, while supporting India’s defence requirements. It aims to export aerospace products, by way of supplying indigenous or co-developed products.

Established in 1940, HAL has so far designed and developed 17 types of Aircraft / Helicopters including Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). The indigenous design and development of Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and Hindustan Turboprop Trainer (HTT) and 40 are progressing presently.

In addition to design and development of aircraft, HAL has also developed expertise in aircraft upgrades. HAL to its credit has the development of first aero engine in the country by way of PTAE-7 engine developed for Pilotless Target Aircraft, Lakshya.

HAL is currently working on the design and development of 25 kN turbofan engine (HTFE-25) which has completed the core engine run and as well as the 1200 kW turbo shaft engine for helicopters (HTSE-1200).

The UAV programs like mini UAV, Tapas etc are also underway through indigenous design and co-development. A Strategic Business Unit (SBU) has been set up for the same.
