Hyderabad: As the Monsoon is all set to hit Telangana State in a couple of days as Indian Meteorological Department officials predicted and some places already witnessing a brief spell of rainfall, the State government is gearing up to take on any sort of eventuality.

Chief Secretary S P Singh on Monday instructed the officials concerned to be prepared for any eventuality in the wake of monsoon beginning very soon. The entire machinery should be geared up to face disasters like floods, unseasonal rains and hailstorms during the monsoon season, he said.

At a high level review meeting here, SP Singh asked the officials to ensure that the entire machinery was ready to take on monsoon challenges and to avoid its trial of destruction including floods, damages to life and cattle or assets. Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Railways, NDRF personnel, IMD, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Irrigation, Director of Economics and Statistics, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development and others should have better coordination and communication during the emergencies, he directed.

He stressed on the need for constant vigil and watch at all times during the entire season by all the departments. SP Singh also asked to stock adequate quantities of essential commodities and medicines and proper arrangements for safe drinking water. Singh asked to open control rooms at times of emergencies 24 X 7 and create awareness among farmers regarding agricultural activities and steps needed for fodder and seed supply.
