The administration of Osmania University in Hyderabad has decided to ban political events and meetings in the campus. A notice has also been issued in this regard on Wednesday.

All the students, teaching and non-teaching staff were informed in a press statement that activities not related to academics won't be given permission on campus.

The press release by OU quoted, "The university has been established for the purpose of imparting higher education and conducting research in various disciplines. The primary objective of the university is purely academic and research-oriented. It is, therefore, informed to all the concerned including the teachers, students and staff that activities which are unrelated to academics will not be permitted on the campus."

The news faced backlash on social media with many pointing out that the campus was the centre stage for the Telangana movement which was led by the students ultimately leading to Telangana statehood and K Chandrasekhar Rao with the Chief Minister post.

While many students compared the OU's decision to the state's move to shift Dharna chowk from Indira Park to the city's outskirts, others are questioning the need to bring in new rules and restrictions.
