Says Rs 500 crore will be earmarked in the next budget for the Farmers Federation
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said farmers’ associations would have special powers in deciding minimum support price (MSP) for their produce. “Farmers should sell their produce only if they get price a little more than the MSP, or else farmers’ associations will be given permits for milling process,” he said.
The Chief Minister said Rs 500 crore would be earmarked in the next budget for the Farmers Federation, which would be financially strengthened with the Capital fund and by raising loans from banks. The federation would ensure that the farmers get MSP for their produce and also sell their crops for higher price, Chandrashekar Rao said.
The Chief Minister on Thursday interacted with several leaders including Mahabubabad district Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Gudipudi Naveen, MLA D S Redya Naik, former MLA Kavitha, senior leaders Ramasahayam Rangareddy, ODCMS former chairman Kudithi Mahender Reddy, MPPS, ZPTCs and farmers’ leaders who met the former at the Pragati Bhavan.
Speaking to Mahabubabad district leaders, the Chief Minister said the government was taking a lot of measures for the welfare of farmers and to make agriculture profitable.
He said as on date, Agriculture Extension Officers were conducting surveys in villages. Data on farmers and lands should be recorded. After the survey, Farmers associations would be formed at the villages, later at mandal, district and the State level, he said. At every level, the Farmers’ Association would intervene and help the farming community.
“Farmers Association will help the government in framing the policies and coordinate with the farmers. Rs 8,000 per acre for two crops input assistance given by the government will help farmers not to fall into the debt trap,” the Chief Minister said. He said the State government was according top priority to irrigation to help boost agricultural segment in the State.
Next year, water from the Godavari would be drawn from the Kaleswaram pump houses. Through LMD and MMD, water would be supplied to Warangal district. The Chief Minister suggested that repairs works should be done on SRSP canal in Mahabubabad district and Suryapet district.
“The SRSP canal should have the capacity to supply 8 to 10,000 Cusecs of water,” Chandrashekar Rao said, adding that he instructed Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao to visit and examine the SRSP canal and the government was ready to release funds. Farmers and elected representatives should focus on the canal repair works and all tanks should be filled with the canal water and save two crops, the Chief Minister advised the leaders.
