Hyderabad: The Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) system, which is meant for predicting weather in Telangana State, has been lying defunct due to technical glitch since Wednesday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad centre, has informed its head office in Delhi and it will be rectified in couple of days.

The IMD officials at the Hyderabad centre are relying on inputs from IMD centres in Machilipatnam, Visakhapatnam and Chennai for forecast in 10 districts of Telangana. With this technical handicap, it is difficult to provide thunderstorm warnings and hailstorm warnings.

IMD Director YK Reddy said, "It is internal matter and refused to provide the information. The IMD has been continuously updating GHMC about the weather forecast, he said.

However, sources in IMD told The Hans India it is trying to get the component from the Delhi radar. He said that it would take two days time to repair the radar.

The radar was dysfunctional during 2015 due to technical problem. The IMD had waited 10 months get the Doppler Radar repaired then.
