Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his shock over the sudden demise of senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Palvai Govardhan Reddy, who died of heart attack in Kullu Manali in Himachal Pradesh on Friday.
In a statement here Friday, the Chief Minister recalled his personal association with Reddy, who had a long political career and conveyed his condolences to the members of his family.
The Chief Minister spoke to MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, who was with Govardhan Reddy in the Parliamentary Standing Committee, which met at Kullu and found out the details. The Chief Minister instructed Chief Secretary SP Singh and Delhi Resident Commissioner Arvind Kumar to arrange a chartered flight to bring the mortal remains of Govardhan Reddy to Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister also asked MPs K Keshav Rao and Jithendra Reddy to oversee the arrangements for shifting the body and other related programmes. The Chief Minister also asked the Chief Secretary to make arrangements to conduct the funeral of Palvai Govardhan Reddy with police honours.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari and Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy condoled the sudden demise of Govardhan Reddy. They recalled the relation with the Congress leader who was a long time politician form Telangana. Srihari and Narsimha Reddy conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.
Srihari recalled that Goverdhan Reddy fought for Telangana and tried his best to develop his constituency and the State as a Cabinet Minister. Palvai was known for fighting against undemocratic policies in the party, Srihari said. Death of Palvai was a loss to Telangana State, Srihari said and expressed sympathies to the bereaved family members.
Narsimha Reddy said Palvai was a noted for his straight and forward talk. He was sensitive and outspoken and offered several services to the people during his long political career. “We are making arrangements for shifting the body as per Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s directives,” he said. MPs K Keshava Rao and Jithender Reddy, several senior Congress leaders and others also condoled the death of Palvai and recalled their association with him.
