Hyderabad: Taking into cognizance of The Hans India report published on 3 June titled ‘City library in a pathetic condition’, the Hyderabad Collectorate had sanctioned Rs 66.35 lakh to the city libraries.

Hyderabad Joint Collector M Prashanthi asked the authorities to take up the renovation works at the City Library in Chikkadpally on priority with an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh. She asked the officials to construct toilets and purchase new books for the library.

Responding to a query, Prashanthi said, "The City Central Library will get a new and modernised look. We will construct two toilets at the library which will be maintained by Sulabh international. We are renovating all libraries in the city and renovation works have already begun in few libraries.”

Prasanthi said plans are being made to purchase new books for the libraries in bulk quantity. The water will be supplied by the water works department and the library will get two tanks of water.

Besides this, she said the Collectorate had decided to renovate five other libraries, including Kavadiguda (Rs 30 lakh), Womens Vijayanagar colony, Masbtank (Rs 6 lakh), Malakpet (Rs 3 lakh), Santosh Nagar (Rs 15 lakh) and Nampally (Rs 4.30 lakh).
