Samosa vendor’s son gets top rank in JEE Advanced
It was a day of celebration for the family of Mohan Abhyas Vabirisetti, the 64th ranker in JEE Advanced exam on Sunday. The family, which never takes off from the profession of making samosas, was out of house for most part of the day celebrating the success and meeting the teachers of the educational institution where Abhyas got his coaching.
Hyderabad: It was a day of celebration for the family of Mohan Abhyas Vabirisetti, the 64th ranker in JEE Advanced exam on Sunday. The family, which never takes off from the profession of making samosas, was out of house for most part of the day celebrating the success and meeting the teachers of the educational institution where Abhyas got his coaching.
Talking to The Hans India in his small single bedroom apartment in Kukatpally late on Sunday evening, the 16-year- old Abhyas said the credit for his success goes to his parents who strove day and night to ensure that he gets best of coaching. “To be very frank, I studied normally and there was no extra effort. I used to study for nine to 10 hours every day. I got good encouragement from the coaching centre,” he said.
The 16 year- old boy said that he wants to join IIT Mumbai to continue his studies in the highest educational institution of the country. He said he was lucky as his parents ensured that he focuses his attention on studies only. His father Subba Rao, who is from Palakollu in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, migrated to Hyderabad 13 years ago in search of livelihood as he suffered heavy loss in business in his home town.
Subba Rao said, “I and my wife Suryakala have been into the business of making samosas and sell them at a shop opposite to our flat. We work throughout the week and do not take rest even on Sundays. I dropped after Inter second year and my wife is a graduate. But I am lucky that I am able to meet the requirements of the family and provide education to my children. My daughter is in Tenth Class,” he said.
Expressing their joy over the success of their son, Rao said his son was an average student till Ninth Class. The credit of his achievement goes to his teacher Rambabu who inspired the boy to aim high. With the guidance of his teacher, Abhyas started doing well in education from Class IX and now he has achieved the top position.
Abhyas, is one among the 30 students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who secured top positions among top 100 rankers in the JEE Main 2017.Vabirisetti who wrote the exam from IIT Roorkee zone scored 339 marks out of 366, in which he got 120 marks in Maths, 104 in Physics and 115 marks in Chemistry.
He was ranked 55th in JEE Main entrance examination. At least 1.7 lakh candidates had registered and appeared in the exams which were held on May 21.He secured fifth rank in the Telangana EAMCET exam and also did well in the APEAMCET.
