Mystery behind twin suicides deepens

Hyderabad: While the police investigations established a connection between the suicides of beautician Sirisha at a photo studio in Filmnagar on Tuesday and Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Reddy in Kuknoorpally Police Station the next day, suspense continued with regard to the reasons behind the twin-tragedies.

Though preliminary investigations indicated that the Sub-Inspector had committed suicide with his service revolver, the police are yet to establish whether the beautician had committed suicide or whether it was a case of homicide.It might be recalled that Vijayalakshmi alias Sirisha, a resident of Krishnanagar and working as a beautician-cum-HR manager in RJ Photo Studio in Filmnagar, was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

While the studio owner Rajeev claimed that he had found her hanging from the ceiling fan, the husband of the deceased woman claimed that there was no question of his wife taking her own life and expressed doubts that she was murdered.
While what compelled the Sub-Inspector to take his own life is being probed by the police, his family members and relatives alleged that he had committed suicide due to harassment by the superior officers. This, however, was denied by the Commissioner of Police and SP of Siddipet district.

Meanwhile the police have stepped up investigations into the case which created sensation in the city as well as in the State. Rajeev, the owner of the photo studio and his friend Shravan were taken into custody and are being interrogated. Even the car belonging to Rajeev was seized by the investigating officers as this was the vehicle in which Rajeev, Shravan and Sirisha had gone to meet Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Reddy at Kuknoorpally Police Station.

The investigating officers, who grilled the whole night both Rajeev and Shravan, are taking them to Kuknoorpally for further inquiries there. The Commissioner of Police of Siddipet, who is supervising the investigation of the SI’s suicide, is also likely to interrogate Rajeev and Shravan with regard to their meeting the SI. The police are trying to find out whether these two along with Sirisha had met in the police station or somewhere else.

The forensic doctors of Osmania Hospital, who conducted postmortem on Sirisha’s body,submitted their report to the investigating officials on Thursday evening. According to the report, the doctors found injuries on her lips, cheeks and head. The backbone at the neck was also found broken. What is intriguing is that the forensic doctors who had conducted the postmortem had not clearly pinpointed the exact cause of her death.

Apart from it, it now emerged that Rajiv, Sarvan and Sirisha had stayed in a farmhouse near Kukunoorpally on Monday. What is yet to be unearthed is whether Prabhkar Reddy was also present along with the trio in the farmhouse. The investigators have turned their focus on whether Rajiv, his friend and Prabhakar Reddy had beaten up Sirisha in the farmhouse.
