Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Department (CSD) is planning to take up massive transfers of inspectors who have been working in the city for some decades. The CSD has identified about 160 Civil Supplies Inspectors (CSIs) working in city for several years and they would be transferred to districts.

According to official sources, keeping in view their track-record, performance and allegations during the recent years, senior officials of the department found that the Inspectors who have been working in the CRO (Chief Rationing Officer) limits were more prone to outside influence.

Some of them allegedly developed links with the Fair Price Shop dealers and failed to act tough against them. This not only affected the functioning of the department, but also affected the revenue generation and tarnished the image of PDS (public distribution system).

“A file has been forwarded to the government in this regard and if the government gives its nod then there would be complete reshuffling of these officials from City to districts and from districts to City,” said an official. The decision was taken by the Commissioner C V Anand following special drive on ‘benami’ Fair Price Shops, which began in May.

He said such large-scale transfers never took place in the history of Civil Supplies department earlier. Even though individual transfers from City to districts were made, but most of the Inspectors, who were not satisfied with the transfers earlier, returned back to the City. Nicknamed as ‘kingmakers’, the Inspectors establish strong bond with the Fair Price Shop dealers, while working under ASO (Assistant Supply Officer). C V Anand said that despite counselling for many Inspectors, they did not mend their ways.
