Hyderabad: Despite tall claims of leaders to make Hyderabad a global destination, the issue of overflowing nalas in many parts of the city has not been resolved for years. Residents of Borabanda and Rehamat Nagar say that overflowing drains have become common site for them; and despite lodging several complaints, the officials have not taken any steps to solve the problems.Residents complain that the high tension electric wires passing just above their houses have been posing a grave threat.

Sharing his experience, S Kiran Babu (a general store owner) said drains in the area overflow on all days throughout the year. He said even after lodging several complaints, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) authorities are making temporary repairs and are not solving the problem on a permanent basis.

He said the residents have been subjected to untold problems due to stench and mosquito menace due to water stagnation.
Echoing his concern, Lakshmi Bai, an Anganwadi worker, said due to continuous flow of drains several school children have been falling sick. She said that the number of children coming to Anganwadi schools has been reduced from 45 to 25.

Mohammed Akbar Ali, who have been residing in Karmik Nagar since 20 years, said due to continuos over flow of drains, the roads have been severely damaged. He said several non-fatal accidents have been reported in the area. Another resident Srikanth Nayak said that the high tension electric wires, which are passing just above the houses, pose great danger during the monsoon.

He said the electric department failed to take any safety measures even after repeated complaints. When queried about the same subject, Water Board and Electricity departments refused to comment on the issue. However, both department officials claimed that they were resolving the complaints on regular basis.
