Fuel station run by women to be opened tomorrow

Hyderabad: As part of its initiatives to contain crime and to reduce number of inmates into prisons, Telangana Prisons Department has been taking some innovative steps.

As part of this initiative, the department is all set to open a fuel station run entirely by women. The fuel station, located near the central prison for women at Chanchalguda, will be inaugurated on Friday.

Inspector General, in-charge of the Prisons Department, A Narsimha, said about 25 women will work in the fuel station. All the women have served sentence in various cases and were released after being reformed.

The decision to hire women prisoners, who have already served their sentences, has been taken to provide a respectable living for them since the society will not trust them immediately. If they don’t find a living, the released prisoners may go back to commit offenses, the official said.

Each of the employees will be paid a salary of Rs 12,000 per month. He said that perhaps, this will be the only fuel station in the country to be run entirely by women.

The department has already been running a few fuel stations operated by released male prisoners and this is the first fuel station to be run entirely by women.
